What PSU should I take?

Hello. I am going to upgrade my build by installing an aftermarket CPU cooler (probably water, H60), A NEW PSU and a new GPU

Here is my build at the moment
* CPU: Intel i5 4690k
* GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 270x Dual-X OC 2GB
* RAM: 8GB Hynix RAM @ 1600MHz
* HDD: Western Digital Caviar blue 1TB @ 7200RPM
* HDD 2: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB @ 7200RPM
* MOBO: ASUS Z97-K
* PSU: EVGA 500B 500W

I will be overclocking the CPU and maybe even the GPU if it means I will get more frames or intense games such as Metro and Crysis.

As you can tell my PSU isn't very good and I would luike to know whta PSU I should take in terms of wattage. I know I should take a trusted brand such as EVGA and XFX but what wattage should i take? My budget for a PSU is £50

Not entirely sure how I missed this, but the new GPU I will be taking is the R9 280X

You can enter your configuration into PCPartPicker.com. That will give you an estimated power requirement. Add about 100W to that or more if you plan on eventually running multiple GPU cards.

Know that power consumption increase faster than performance if you overclock, so add another 200W for overclocking the CPU and maybe 150 each per GPU.

Then use PCPartPicker and the Tom's Hardware PSU Tier list. to choose no less than a Tier 2 PSU.

Your budget for a PSU is much too low and insane. If you want to run high-current demanding equipment, you can't stuff the PSU into your budget as an afterthought at £50. YOu first determine the requirement and then you pay what it takes to do what you want. Or you don't get to do it without significant risk to your components.

I use the Rosewill CAPSTONE 750W Modular PSU for my build.

CPU - AMD Fx-8320
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970
RAM - 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz
HDD - 500GB
MOBO - GA-78LMT-USB3

It runs powers everything well, and have not had any issues with it.

My built is almost identical:
* CPU: Intel i5 4690k
* GPU: ASUS R9 280 3GB
* RAM: 8GB (2x4Gb) ADATA RAM @ 2600MHz
* HDD: Western Digital Caviar blue 1TB @ 7200RPM
* SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
* MOBO: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO
* PSU: NZXT HALE82N PSU 750W
* 7 fans mounted in an NZXT H440 case

Most calculators through the web suggested a PSU around 500W with my current built, but thought that isn't enough.
Gone with the 750W to be sure that the system is powered properly.

Okay could you atleast let me know what would be a good wattage then? I know you told me to use partpicker but that is what made me take my 500w PSU and evidently, it's not good enough.

As for raw wattage, 500W should be enough for your build. PCPartPicker estimate at 380W (excluding case fans, etc.)

It's when you come to overclocking and more video cards that you have to add to that. In my estimate if you do overclock both those cards, and add no additional GPUs, you need a 750W - 800W PSU.

I usually recommend and build with NZXT if I know the person will overclock.
