What PSU would i need in my new build?

Optical Drive - Lite-On 24x CD/DVD Burner

Case - Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced - High Air Flow Full Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and All-Black Interior - $140

GPU - Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 2GB Video Card - $380

Storage - Seagate 600 Series 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk - $170 Don't worry about this, I'll be importing an old hard-drive after i wipe it.

RAM - Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory - $90

MOBO - Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Z87 DDR3 3PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 HDMI CrossFireX/SLI SATA3 USB3 Motherboard - $195

PSU - ?

Processor - Intel Core i5 4670K Unlocked Quad Core 3.4GHZ Processor LGA1150 Haswell 6MB - $240


If you guys have need for peripherals i'm running a standard mouse, a Logitech G930 headset and a wireless microsoft keyboard along with a NETGEAR wireless adapter.

Before further investigation I was considering buying a 900 watt PSU, and a 1200W PSU

Before further investigation I was considering buying a 900 watt PSU, and a 1200W PSU

1200w for that build!?????.....no way, that is wayyyyyyy too much..The maximum you'll need is 550w or maybe 750w if you plan on sli'ing in the near future. I would recommend the Corsair AX/HX series or Seasonic X series. very nice power supply units ...

Hi - Leonelli is correct - that build will run fine on a good quality Haswell ready 550w unit. if you want additional headroom (OC, etc), you might want to consider a good quality Haswell ready 650w unit.

I'm not a big fan of the EVGA Supernova series, their voltage regulation isnt as good as maybe a Seasonic psu, and crossload test results, the supernova doesnt do terrible but it also doesnt do particularly good...I'm not invalidating your post Blackbird, just saying that i think the psu should be one of the most expensive things inside your cabinet (obviously after cpu/ gpu etc)...and for power supply units, i would not trust anyone apart from Corsair or Seasonic, maybe in some cases XFX with their professional series

well yes i'm aware the cx series is one of the worst from Corsair, i was talking about the Corsair AX/HX and Seasonic X series
all i was saying was that i'd rather pay couple of dollars more to get something i really trust, personally i would never go for a psu that has a voltage regulation of anything above 1% ...the ones i mentioned are about 0.6% or something (even in above average room temperatures)...having only a single 12v rail is also helpful, saves you from having to upgrade your psu again and again

right, i wasnt trying to prove you wrong or anything blackbird, i have personal experience with the Seasonic x series and Corsair's AX (the HX on a friend's build) and would highly recommend those because i know they're pretty good....the one you just posted right now obviously seems to be a really good one as well and i would recommend the OP to consider this psu as well
