Hi, I currently have a Dell Optiplex 780 DT and was wondering what specific type of ram I could use with it. Multiple sources have shown me varying answers an has sparked confusion upon me. So, I would like to ask for advice as to what ram I may use. As of now, all I know is that I need a DDR3 ram clocked at 1,333 Mhz. And what max capacity per DIMM slot may I use? Thanks!

Solution
The Opti 780 can support 16 GB RAM. Ram in that will run at 1066 speed, but common DDR3 1333 low density RAM will work. This is sometimes identified as x64. X128 "AMD" RAM won't work. You could go to Crucial.com. They guarantee compatability and have a lifetime warranty.

4GB DDR3 UDIMM Low density RAM. They sell 1600 for that because 1333 isn't beingmade any more. It will run at 1066.
GPU is a little tricky for that. It is designed to run a Low Profile, single slot card. All of the 1050 series LP cards are 2 slot wide, and have a hardmounted DVI port in the 2nd slot. This limits you to either the GT1030, or the older but more powerful...
What processor do you have on it? GPU wise, sorry, you can't add anything to it without running into (proprietary)PSU issues. The ram, maximum supported is 8GB so with 4 slots you're looking at 4x2GB ram kit at 1.65v/1.8v DDR3-1066MHz.

Be sure and get one that doesn't have a 6 pin PCIe cable. if you're willing to do some metal work on the case and GPU bracket you could probably get a GTX1050Ti in there. The PSU is OK for it. Measure length carefullly though. if the cards too long then your out of luck.
Q9650 is the max. CPU option.
RW134 is a good heatsink to replace the aluminum chunk if that's what you have.
0W5971 heatsink, aka cooler assy. 0H7445 is the old Opti 745DT 130W Pentium D cooler.
The Opti 745 DT PSU has a few more watts in it. But not necessary.

Solution
I did dforget one option that's specific to the Optiplex DT series. The whole back of the case expansion slot area lifts out and can be replaced with a 90* PCIe riser bracket that allows 1/2 length Full Height GPUs to be run. This translates to a ZOTAC GTX1050TI Mini fitting.

It did require trimming the plastic GPU cover to clear the Printer Port on the MB, and some SATA cables with 90* ends to go under the GPU.
I also suggest installing an Antec expansion slot blower in the slot above the GPU to provide an outlet for the hot air from the CPU/GPU area.
The Zotac has a single slot bracket and is only as long as the PCIe slot. Nothing else will fit without modding the bracket and the length. It should run off of the Opti 780 PSU. If not get the 275W PSU from an Opti 745 DT.
