What RAM is compatible with my motherboard?

I'm upgrading my parents computer. I built this system a long time ago and it has a Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX. I forgot what RAM I bought for it but whatever RAM I did buy, it is no longer in stock. I'm wondering what is the max amount of RAM for one slot and if I'm able to buy a high density ram or low density ram. I'm confused on all those posts on eBay about RAM being mac compatible and intel compatible

I'm able to use 800Mhz RAM though because I just looked and that's whats running now. I guess my question would be if I'm able to buy high density RAM because those seem to be cheaper. For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291187111991

Oh cool... just curious, do you know the difference between high and low density ram and why they wouldn't work on some mobos?

About your question:

The density of the modules isn't important. What is important is ensuring that the modules are compatible with each other. I'm assuming that you wish to install the 2x2GiB that you just purchased alongside some existing 1GiB modules?

If so, problems with such a configuration are uncommon but not unheard of. There's no strict technical incompatibility, but mixing and matching memory can often cause instability. If you start to experience crashes, remove the older modules and make due with the 2x2GiB
