What RAM should I get?

Greetings!

So my graphics card just died and I'm planning to get a gtx 770. While opening it up with my friend, my friend told me that i could put 2 more RAM in it and a SSD upgrade... I'm a gamer and a programmer but I have not touched the internal components of my pc. I went to newegg and there are a lot of choices I don't know where to start!

What brands are good? All i know for now is that i want to get 2x8gb ram

Well we would need to know what you're running now to make that call, download a program called CPU-Z, install it and tell us what the memory tab says, additionally there is a tab that will tell you the make and model of your current memory this could also be useful.

Most computers do have the option of some crappy onboard video you should be able to use it if you plug your monitor into your motherboard instead of the dead gpu (and remove dead gpu) and you can get that information as well.
