what set-up code?

When I set about setting up my new Lenovoa laptop, the system asked for the last 4 digits of my phone number, and said it would send me some sort of code that I needed. Well myu phone went on the blink and I never got that code. Now, Internet Explorer doesn't work for me. What do I do?

I never heard of being asked for any such thing when setting up a new laptop, doesn't sound right to me.
Completely baffled as to why you would be asked for any part of your mobile number, what if you didn't have a mobile phone at all? It just doesn't make sense.

I've set up loads of new laptops (all brands) for people in my time, never once was asked for any numbers.
