I can run Skyrim on High settings at a decent frame rate (don't know the actual fps) on my laptop. I have an i7-2617M @ 1.6GHz with a GT 540M (slightly overclocked) and 6GB of RAM. You should probably be able to run Medium settings decently at the monitor's native resolution.
