What should be my next upgrade?

Hello, so my specs are:
GTX 1070 Aorus
I7-4790
DDR3 1600MHz 12gb
ASRock H81M-VG4
HDD-2tb
600W 80 plus gold PSU

I'm thinking about getting an SSD, what should I do next? I just got the gtx 1070 and my budget is about 550$, thanks 😀

well a better motherboard can give you a better overclock and more ram slots for the future

actually your cpu has turbo boost technology and Hyper-Threading but switching to a new cpu and motherboard isnt a bad idea either

The board isn't the best and you don't have a K CPU to OC, but overall that should be an ok setup for awhile. As you correctly pointed out plutiper, you'd have to buy a new board, CPU, and RAM. That's a lot of money spent right now for not a lot of upgrade. (Unless you are also streaming while gaming.) A 4790 and 1070 should handle all games right now at 1080.

SSD sounds good. I'd get one bigger than 120GB though. I have win7 on my 120GB and it (and the programs I have to make windows fun.) uses about 60GB. I have no games on it, so if you want to put games on it you'll only be able to install around 2 or 3 current gen games at most. I have a second SSD that is 250/256GB that holds my steam folder. If you don't game a 120GB is fine. But if you want games on it you need a much larger SSD. If you aren't upgrading the board and CPU and want to upgrade to an SSD, I'd look for other toys. New Keyboard/mouse? Speakers? Chair? monitor?

If you need more cpu power, a I5-8600K, a Z370 motherboard, and 16gb of ddr4 ram will cost you about your budget of $550.

If your gaming is ok then consider buying a high resolution wide monitor.

A ssd upgrade is one of the most satisfying performance upgrades. Not so much for gaming, but for everyday use.
120gb as mentioned above is really too small. 240 would be minimum.
I like the Samsung evo units for performance and reliability.

I have a 1440p monitor, a mechanical keyboard that I like, I'd probably need a new mouse and a chair 😀

I have a decent 1440p 144hz monitor and I'm thinking about getting a 500gb ssd so my games could load faster. And about monitors..... could you recomend me a good one that is curved has nice refresh rate and could be good for fps games as well as wathcing youtube and movies? Thanks 😀

If you have a decent 1440 monitor I don't think I'd get another. Not if you need an SSD, chair, etc. ~$500 should get you a 500-1TB SSD, chair and mouse. Depending on what you want/get. $300 for a 1TB SSD, $100 mouse and chair.

If you can, go to a store and check out the different monitors in person.
I use a Philips 40" monitor, and while the size is nice, I wish it had a curve to it.
I have a bit of difficulty with small text at the extreme edges.
4k monitors typically have a nice ips image but a 60hz refresh rate.
That may not suit you if you play fast action games.
With a GTX1070, you may not be able to drive a high resolution monitor to 60fps.

If you have two monitors you can game in the fast one you now have playing FPS games and use the wide monitor when playing mmo, or strategy games where a wide angle is more important than fps.
