imo 144hz is overkill, i wouldn't suggest anything above 120hz. And you should buy the monitor first, that gpu is probably gonna drop a little in price as it's rather new.

Why is 144 overkill?
Because you're not going to see the difference between 120 and 144 😛. And all it will do is make your GPU work harder
Refresh rate will have no impact on how hard the graphics card has to work, though you could argue 120Hz is preferable if using v-sync.
well it does if you look at the difference between 60 hz and 144 hz with vsync on. An imo gaming should always be done with vsync on that's why i assumed that sorry.
I'd agree with the single card advice, though I'd say a single GTX760 and add a second later if needed. GTX770 and especially GTX780 offer very poor value relative to the GTX760 unfortunately. As for gaming at 144Hz, if you mean 144fps then that's really not a question anyone can answer. It varies massively depending on the game you're playing, the part of the game you're benchmarking and the resolution and settings you play at. If you're playing Crysis 3 then no, you're not going to be maintaining 144fps. The same is true for most modern games maxed at 1080p. Your monitor will refresh at 144Hz regardless.
