It depends what you want to do. If you're gaming you want to upgrade the graphics card, but you're not going to be able to use a new one to full potential without the cpu becoming a bottleneck. In your case you might want to look into a whole new system if you want the latest games.
Yes, I want it for gaming. I only have money for either a CPU or a GPU right now, so if I upgrade my GPU, it will still boost the performance ( Though as you mentioned not at full potential ), right?
The i5 should be good for a little while longer if you don't play cpu-intensive games. And yes, a newer gpu will greatly improve your performance. I would reccomend a GTX 1060 6gb if you can afford it.
