Hi,

I am a filmmaker, I use After Effect, Premiere, Houdini FX, and sometimes 3Ds Max and Maya. I am planning to buy a new graphic card to maximize the efficency.

Originally, I planned to buy 1060, but I'm re-considering to buy 1070 or 1080. So is 1080 worth the price to buy with my work? or is the differences are not much different and I should stick to 1070?

Thank you in advanced,

Solution
a 1070 is a great card and uses the same chipset as the 1080 just a lower binned down-clocked slightly. It honestly comes down to how much it is worth to you. a 1080 will probably take 10-15% less time to render a clip so is that 10-15% worth the extra money.

The way the 1070 prices are going right now, I would buy a 1080. Microcenter has a 1070 on sale for $500 and a 1080 on sale for $550. The 1080 is a much better card. The 1070 has 8gb of GDDR5memory where the 1080 has 8gb of GDDR5X memory. The 1070 has 25% fewer cores than the 1080. This is why the 1080 has GDDR5X memory as GDDR5 memory would not keep the additional cores fed and create a bottleneck.

But if you wait a month or two, the mining craze should be coming to an end and the price of the 1070s will drop. Their MSRP is $350, so it would be foolish to pay $500 now, especially since the card has been out for over a year.

I don't have to buy it now, I can wait for a couple months, I am just wondering that if the price of 1080 really worth buying compared to the 1070, if the percentage of differences are not too high, then I guess I'll stick with 1070. Currently in my country, they are selling 1080 with ~$780 and 1070 with ~$600, I believe shoul wait for couple more months before making my decision.

Agreed 100%.

That's what I did, I got a GTX 1080 over the GTX 1070 since the prices were so close.
