I was looking on the internet and saw that 2 Asus GeForce GTX 970 Strix were running better than one Asus GeForce GTX 980ti Graphics card. I was wondering if this is true if so would I be better off going with 2 970's or one 980ti especially for future-proofing my pc? thank you for any advice! :)

Solution

Well if in the future you are doing 4k i'd say go 980ti and get...

Personally, i'd say both will do good, the 970's might do better than it right now but if you get a 980ti now and over time when you have more money get another, that will be a lot better than the 970's. The 980ti is still amazing for games.
Also what quality will you play at?

Yes it is true that two 970's in SLI is slightly faster than a single 980ti in games that can actually take advantage of it however a single GPU is still better for lack of ease when it comes to the inherent issues related to SLI such as heat, fan noise and game compatibility. It's not uncommon for a game to not support SLI right out the box or have the SLI become broken due to an update. Then there is the Ramgate issue with the 970's that depending on how you look at it is or isn't an issue. I currently have 970's in SLI and am in the process of replacing them both with a single Ti. Any performance i'll be losing can be negated by overclocking the Ti.

I will probably eventually play at 4k but for now until I upgrade my monitor 1080p

So getting one 980ti will be better than getting two 970's because I could just overclock the 980ti?

Oh, and the mobo I was getting is the Asus Sabertooth X99 with 2x8 ddr4 Corsair Dominator platinum ram if that makes any difference.

Well if in the future you are doing 4k i'd say go 980ti and get another one of those when you can.

One last question would a Corsair AX1200i be good for this pc:
Mobo: Asus X99 Sabertooth
Cpu: Intel i7 5820k (Will overclock to about 4GHz)
Ram: 16gb (2x8) Corsair Dominator Platinum 2666MHz (Will overclock to 3000MHz)
Gpu: Asus 980ti Strix ( add a second later on)
Case: Corsair 780t
HDD: Seagate 4TB 3.5" 5900RPM Hybrid Drive
SSD: Intel 730 Series 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ior the Samsung 850 pro 512gb (whichever is better)
Corsair H110i GT liquid cooling
Asus ROG Front Base
4 or 5 Corsair SP140 fans with led

Also wondering if this pc will be future proof and run 4k games good?

Yes that should be good at 4k and will most likely be future proof, but also make sure you have AT LEAST a 1000w psu for that. A little above would be better.
