What Should I Do With A 27" iMac LCD Panel? (get creative)

So I got a broken 2009-2010 27" imac with a 2560x1440 lcd panel. I removed the broken glass from the computer and checked to see if the screen works. The screen works well and doesn't appear to have any discoloration, damage, or dead pixels. I want to make my own monitor out of this without paying $100 for the replacement glass unless that is the best choice. I want to make it a standalone monitor with all of the computer components removed. I'm looking at getting this:

Does anybody have any cool ideas on how I can get this working well with a good hdmi controller and a decent frame with good glass? (I'm not opposed to using the original frame and buying the replacement glass. However, I would like to do this without spending much money if possible) Also, I have access to many woodworking materials and tools if the case can be constructed out of that.

how do you know the screen works?

I turned the iMac on and looked at the screen. The computer was old and the power supply went bad. The computer is already scrapped. The screen is out of the case and the case is empty.

you don't really need the glass as just protection for the plastic on the screen. was the screen mounted to the computer bezel or to the computer back casing?

It's a one piece computer and it was screwed into the back casing. Do you know a good controller that I can get to make the display work? The actual screen is mounted within a steel frame, which was mounted into the casing. The bezel was the glass piece and it was held to the casing with magnets. I can probably make my own bezel out of plexiglass or something.

Hey KrissT, I'll post some pictures when I'm done. I just need to figure out if I want to reuse the enclosure or build another.

use the enclosure for now to get the setup working then can make a new enclosure with all your working parts on hand.
