You could turn it into a file server or and HTPC, but it's not worth putting any money in to it. $700.00 is a good budget for a 1080p gaming build.

I think you should buy "http://www.ebay.com/itm/KingSpec-SATA-III-3-0-2-5-32GB-MLC-Digital-SSD-Solid-State-Drive-for-PC-XI49-/131671963018?hash=item1ea842b58a:g:ReMAAOSwNphWaCrf" and put it in the pc you got from your relative and then sell it on craigslist...or just keep it whatever. If you want a new pc which can play any game 45+ fps for $700 "http://pcpartpicker.com/p/j9ZbBm" I didnt add memory since you got 8gb ddr3 corsair vengeance which are compatible with this build. I chose the r9 380 but you can go with gtx 960 if you want they are similar.

If i add that SSD how much do you think the PC would sell for? I would need to wipe that PC clean as well right?

for the case, can i buy pretty much any case that is mid to high and it would still fit all that stuff? In my opinion that case is pretty blan and i want one that would stand out. I know cases dont really matter but its more for looks

The SSD is new so you would just need to install an operating system. You would have to wipe your relatives computer harddrive since that drive isnt new. You computer with ssd sell price would be $100...its a really old pc and its specs are so low it might not even function correctly with windows 10 so you might want to install Linux Ubuntu it would be a better operating sestem for this computer.
