What should I do with my rig?

Hey guys,
I am pretty confused on what I should do. Basically I feel like I do not even need my pc at all. It is definitely a nice gaming rig that can run pretty much every current game maxed out. The only problem is that I am really starting to lose interest in gaming. I barely even play too much anymore. I am either at work, out with friends, playing golf, bball, or something just out of the house. I am going to be a sophomore in college in the fall and will doubt I will be gaming at all during the semester. I could easily sell it on ebay for $1000 or $1200 with my 22" monitor. I would also sell my macbook too for $850. With a few other things that I have to post on ebay anyway that would leave me with about $2300 in the bank. I would then get the new 12" dvz2 laptop from hp and customize it to what I would need and that would cost me $800. That still is $1500 in the bank and I would have a more up to date laptop that is smaller and overall better for college. Do you guys think this is a good idea, considering that I really do not game too much anymore? I would really appreciate some input on this because I am a little confused and would like another opinion. Thanks!

Interests change, if it just sits there gathering dust it just loses value. I'd be inclined to sell it, especially if you can get a decent price for it. Buy whatever interests you now and if you get back into gaming in the future, just build a new rig with the new components that will be out by then. However as 2boxer says "only you can decide"

If you don't use it then there is no reason to have it lying around collecting dust, especially since you already have a laptop. I'd just sell it and get a nice replacement laptop with a T9550 or better CPU, then if you can sell the MacBook after you have your newer laptop. Save the money or go and buy a nice TV or something.

Thanks for the input, you guys pretty much confirmed how I felt. I will post it on ebay tomorrow if it sells it sells, if not then oh well haha. The macbook is going up on ebay as well.

Hey xthekidx, what would you suggest for a T9550 laptop brand wise? I was looking at the hp dv2z but the T9550 would blow that thing away. I do however want it to be somewhat small probably around a 12.1" screen if I can find one. Also I am not trying to spend over $1000 on a laptop. I will research on my own but if you guys have any suggestions feel free to share it!

well i know nothing when it comes to laptops but i searched newegg and i found that there is no way to get a T9950 laptop without spending more than 1000$

Thanks for the response. Both of the laptops you listed are very nice. I am still interested in an ultra-portable so I doubt the processor in one will be too high up there. The hp dv2z has a Dual core X2 Neo processor. For $800 I think I could do better though in terms of performance but size wise I doubt it without switching to a netbook.

Thanks for the reply xthekidx. After thinking about all of my options I may actually just keep my rig and sell my macbook. I really do not need a laptop until fall semester and thats not for a few months. A netbook will definitely suffice for my college needs when that time comes. So to simplify things more I just need to sell the macbook now.

Because I am keeping the rig and selling the macbook, I will be receiving $850 for the mac. I have also sold my old 24" for $150 and am going to be selling my 22" for $150 as well. Now to replace those monitors I am buying this monitor when newegg gets it back in stock.

I am wondering what I should do graphic cards wise to power this thing? Should I CF another 4870 1gb or sell my current 4870 and upgrade to CF 4890's?

I did the math on everything and heres what I came up with:

selling
$ from monitors $300 - local buyers
$ from macbook $850 - ebay
$ from case and heatsink $100 - selling to friend
$ from ds $75 -ebay
total money so far $1325
$ from gpu $150* $1475*

buying
26” monitor $360
Case and HSF $250
Add another 4870 $180
+$790
OR
CF 4890’s $400
+$1010*

So if my math is correct, CF 4890's $1475 - $1010 = $465 leftover.
or Another 4870 for CF $1325 - $790 = $535 leftover.

So through simple math I should CF 4870's since I will be getting more money to put in the bank if I am not mistaken.

Is it worth the extra money to upgrade to 2 4890's at the resolution of that monitor (1900x1200) or should I stick to just adding a 4870 for cheaper?

Quick question: Can I buy any brand of 4870 1gb? I have a Sapphire 4870 1gb and the XFX 4870 1gb is $150. Will they run in CF with no problems? Thanks
