Ok so heres the catch i have a 980 2 way sli setup with a i7 4790k and i've thought about upgrading i know my 980s are pretty strong together but i think that they have stopped working as well as they should be i get about a 200fps in overwatch on epic setting while my friend gets 300 on a 1070 with a i 7700k and i've thought about upgrading but nothing really seems like a good investment since when i've checked benchmarks my 980s should go up against the famous 1080. But i've seen fps drops and inconsistant fps i tried factory resetting my whole system with no luck and my i7 is on turbo. I've been thinking about buying a full uppgrade in raw power parts like the Gpu and cpu i have thought about buying a 1080 + i5 8600k combo with a new motherboard ofcourse but that's a very big investment and i'm kinda low on money i have about 3500kr or 426$ and i think i will get atleast 400 more this christmas so that adds up to 826 dollars which still might not be enough. do you think it's worth or should i wait for intel and nvidia to make a new realese next year? Help please.

Ps. sorry for bad english/spelling and sorry for no . or , i'm just so stressed out since it feels like it's dying.

your CPU is easily strong enough for Overwatch.

as for fps, unless you got a 240Hz screen, it doesn't matter if you got 160 or 250fps
if you're playing on a 144Hz screen, you'd want to stay above 144, if you're playing on a 60 Hz screen, anything abouve 60fps is fine.

while a single-GPU setup is always easier than a SLI setup, replacing 2x 980 with a single 1070 or 1080 feels kinda wasted.

Yeah fps dosn't matter but when it feels like the cards are ripping me off with lower peroformance it kinda hurts me. Plus the 1070ti will be available soon so i might pick that up. But still the sli has never been a good solution i mean a single gpu would still give better performance in most to all games.

that's only partially true.
2x980s do perform better than a single 1060 for example.

given that you've spent money on 2 980s (and probably a lot) swapping them for a 1070 or a 1070Ti (although I'm sceptical. the gap between the 1070 and the 1080 hardly justifies another series) is just some poor business.
if you can sell the 980s for a decent price, yeah why not. otherwise I'd wait until an upgrade actually makes sense, which might not be before Christmas 2018.

also how exactly are the cards 'ripping you off'?

I know that they can do better and most of the time i can just check benchmarks on others 2x980s and for some fucking reason my gpus still under perform and i know it's either my gpus or my cpu and it's mostly cpu games that get smaller amounts of frames like Overwatch and league when i play Gta 5 i can easily keep up with a 1080.

So what should i do? should i wait for the 1070ti?

The question is, do you really need more than 200FPS? As already said by others, unless you have a 240Hz monitor, more FPS won't make a difference. If you have a 60Hz monitor it will display no more than 60FPS, so i think you have no reason to upgrade.

i have a 144hz monitor and a 60hz monitor and if i say this i can have capped 60fps in Darksouls and all of the cutscenes will lag like hell it will stutter and jump around do you really not think that this a problem with my computer and for these kinds of reason i don't care about fps i just feel ripped off my card are dying. or cpu that's why i'm asking you guys what i should do not "I WANT MORE FPS" the experience can be the same on a 60fps computer as a 5000pfs computer it's just that my gameplay is stuttery everything feels laggy and there is no such thing as a stable/constant fps.

First of, your I7 is still a very capable CPU, however the 300FPS your friend gets will not only come from the GTX 1070, but also his stronger CPU. In earlier benchmarks i've seen, a single GTX 980 will perform about the same as a GTX 1070 give or take, but 2x980 won't necessarily perform better depending on the game.
Seeing you are from one of the Nordic countries, don't expect the Coffee Lake to become available until next year, or if we are lucky just before xmas.
But for your original question between 8700K with GTX 1070 or 8600K and GTX 1080, I would take the 8600K and GTX 1080 for gaming.

The nordic countries gets everyhting the day it comes out we got the 1070ti 4 hours before America opened their stores and same for the cofee lake but the only question is maybe i should buy a 1070ti instead it has the capabilitie of being fast but you know it's new so there are no benchmarks yet

well there are, more or less.
the 1070Ti isn't anything new. it's a card to fill the tight spot in between a 1080 and a 1070.
look up 1080 benchmarks and 1070 benchmarks, the 1070Ti will sit pretty much in the middle of it.

A single 980 can definitely run dark souls cutscenes without lagging. I don't know how well the game supports SLI, but it's not that your cards are dying and can no longer run it. Try disabling SLI for it in your nvidia settings.

As for 200 fps in Overwatch vs 300 fps on a 144 hz monitor, feel free to throw money at it to get an experience identical to the one you had $1000 ago. You will not notice any difference.

Not quite true, but it seems they are available now, still at a somewhat expensive price because low availability.

Are you high the prices are higher because of tax they have to pay tax for the parts to even come in to the country then we have to pay the price of the extra tax just so they can make a profit. The 1070ti was released the same day as in the US were do you live and how old are you?

This is not about the GTX 1070 TI, but the Coffee Lakes CPUs. The prices are high in the whole world because of a short of supply and they were absolutely not available in the nordic countries until very recently. Let me ask how old are you? And i'm from Denmark btw. else I wouldn't make claims about the nordic countries.

I will also ask again, How old are you? The GTX 1070 TI has not been released in any countries yet. Will not be released until Nov. 2.

I'm from sweden i'm 16 years old and i can go out to a store to get the 1070ti in a couple of days plus i could find the cofee lake on the shelves of a nearby hardware store a couple of hours after they got realesed in the us
