Hey,

I bought parts for a new PC two weeks ago. I have the Corsair HX 850 psu which is insane coil whine. Just from opening a browser you can sometimes hear it through my headphones but it's worst when benchmarking/gaming.
I contacted the retailer where I got it from and since it's within 30 days of purchase they gave me a returns number to drop it off at their store. But the problem is I need a working PC whilst this goes back to get tested etc. I did more research on the 850 hx and it seems a lot of people have coil whine so I'm afraid to even get a replacment of that specific model.
Should I go ahead and buy a RMX 750W Gold PSU and then take the 850 HX back for a refund (assuming coil whine is faulty).

If you was in this situation what would you do?

Solution
If you're convinced the coil whine is coming from the PSU, and your research indicates coil whine is an issue with that make/model of PSU, and the coil whine really bothers you, then YES, buy the RMX 750W Gold PSU. Hopefully you can get it quickly, install it, and then return the other PSU within the 30 day window.
