the only thing i know is that the AMD A10 has a larger L2 Cache so yh im also going to be overclocking the cpu to 4.2GHz

If you have the money they are not even comparable. The 4670k. ANY way you slice it.

If that is out of your budget then the 8320 and appropriate mobo. For gaming pc's apus are utter crap.

This is what an apu does to a powerful gaming video card, notice it is overclocked at 4.6ghz.

For pure computing power, the 4670k would be better, but it should also be much more expensive?

For a counterpart to the 4670k, you could be looking at something like the fx 8320 or the xeon 1230v3

The A10-7850K is an APU, it's strength is the integrated graphics. The i5, while having integrated graphics, is a much stronger and more efficient CPU. Since you're pairing your CPU with a discrete GPU (GTX 760) the i5-4670K is the hands down winner.

Both should be able to hit 4.2GHz with ease.

I'll like to remember that the amount of cores and cycles per second (GHz) doesn't exactly pinpoint the performance.
It vary from architecture to architecture, some might actually get more performance throughput with less cycles, and some architecture have more execution units within the core.

What is inside the core, vary from architecture.

For the price point, apu's are not "utter crap" considering you get a cpu and gpu in one package.. But yeah, the 4570k wins hands down.

For the OP yes they are utter crap compared to what he could get - 8320, 4670k - for his 760.

Ah, i see what you mean now. Yes I agree in this instance an apu is out of the question.
