Note = This is for my bro

They're roughly the same price now and I'm wondering which card to get, they are both great cards, although since AMD have fixed the latency issues with the 7950 with their new drivers, I'm not sure on which one to get. Also I found them at the same price.

He doesn't really care for physx or cuda, but plays alot of borderlands so physx would make sense.

Also, the 384-bit bus and 3gb on the 7950 is quite appealing BUT he will be only using one 1920x1080 monitor, so is the 3gb really needed? Although I think the 7950 would last in the long run.

I haven't got massive knowledge on gpu's but I did do alot of research, and they both have very similar benchmarks, although performing better in certain games etc. (7950 performs better in crysis, 660ti performs better at battlefield 3)

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Current specs:

CPU = FX 6300 (OC'D to 4.4ghz on hyper-evo)
Current GPU = HD 7850
Power supply = 550w (XFX, so shouldn't be a problem)
Motherboard = Asrock 970 extreme 3

Solution
Go for the 7950. I was an ex-owner and it was a VERY good card for the price. Its overclockability and just out of the box performance, not to mention 3GB of video ram for 1440p or multi monitor goodness is very useful in the future. I would recommend to look for one of the ones with an 8+6 pin PCB, because it may use a reference 7970 PCB.
Get HD7950 3GB

:lol:

Whats the minimum price for one I wonder with toms forum discount :lol:

7950 for sure out of the two you picked it has the most GPU power.

EDIT: if you really want the added power of physX then the 660 Ti would need an extra card to handle the physX so then your looking for 2 GPU's not a one card solution. not to mention only useful on PhysX enabled games.

Yes, like people say the 7950 is THE BEST, but not for BL2, it Is possible to run physX of a CPU if u have AMD card, but then lower fps, so I would go Nbidia if you are ONLY playing BL2

Will I get paid for all those?
Why don't you google?
We gave you the clue, findout why?
No you want us to do it for you aswell,
I can actualy order one for you if I had the dosh :lol:

Seriously AMD rocks when it comes to GFX cards :lol:

UMM already did, if you want to get the best bang for the buck go for the AMD if not then Buy 2 GPU's and have one dedicated to physX. the 660 Ti will not be good for PhysX and gaming at the same time it needs help with the physX and do what "OPP" said google it you will find that I am correct.

Hi :)

I do not sell cards here (or anything as it WOULD bias my advice)...I have shops in the UK...(see my sig)

All the best Brett :)

I run a 7950 in my computer with a p2 965 @4.1 ghz. The card rocks. FPS in games are through the roof with me running ultra in WoW, D3, Simcity, SC2(single player, mp i use good), BF3(Sp, Mp i use high), AoE 3, and many others.

The card doesn't skip a beat. I upgraded from 2 4850's which were finally showing their age from when they first came out.

I have the Sapphire 7950 boost edition that is clocked at 950mhz.

Thanks for all the reply's, it seems the HD 7950 is the one I'm going to get today. I would pick all yor answers as the solution but I'll just pick the most informative. Also I forgot to say I live in the UK, we don't get many games bundles (maybe never) these days. Everything is overpriced due to VAT. 😛

I have googled it, although all this stuff about fraps not being not that viable for benchmarks anymore, and also people who get results such as "99th percentile," "time over 50ms," and "observable fps vs fraps fps" etc. I just don't understand the stuff, some benchmarks that are given from you guys I can acutally trust. All the other places I've read it says the 660ti is better while one or two go for the 7950. But ah well I guess the 7950 beats the 660ti here.

It all depends on the games your planning to play. certain ones will perform better with nvidia because the company had a hand in with the developer for the game. This would in turn make the game run smoother/better on their hardware and a bit harder on the competitions hardware. If you see them focused on BL2, BF3, Metro and other games like that, the 660 Ti will appear above the 7950 at 4xAA and below. Where the 7950 really shines is, it allows you to fully take the game to its limits with a boost version of the 7950, in 4xAA and beyond. Most of the 7950 will easily do 8xAA on a single monitor @1080p.
