[SOLVED] What should i invest in?

i have a budget of around £300 and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what i should invest it in to increase performance, i put a list of my current specs on my profile and as you can see i have the OC edition 1070 along with an i5 6600 im pretty certain my motherboard is not oc compatible, which is a shame as i feel im missing out on performance, i play modern video games regularly and common issues i encounter are, frame skips shown as the screen lagging or jarring, launch speed of the games and or applications and accumulation of dust in my case (i know this is common and will always happen but im not sure if there is a way of reducing the amount that gets in), specs are on my profile TIA

As for upgrades ... you currently have 4core/4thread cpu.
You could upgrade to 6core/12thread system by getting a new cpu/motherboard:

Thank you for the help, i have a lot of background apps and defender exclusions, been meaning to evaluate that for a while, what does going to a lower clock speed do for performance, the reviews on the 11400 looked great but not much on how it performs on games tia

What do you mean by lower clock speed?
i5-11400F turbo boosts to 4.4Ghz.
Your current i5-6600k turbo boosts to 3.9Ghz.

Coming from a i5 6600 and upgrading to an 10th or higher series Intel Cpu would be the best upgrade you can do for your system.

I imagine that you are looking to fix some performance issues.

If you are now using a HDD for windows, the first thing I would do would be to convert to a ssd.

In talking about cpu upgrades, first be certain that a cpu upgrade is the most important.
Try this simple test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited and a cpu upgrade is warranted.
I suspect that is your case.
Depending on what your prices are, You could upgrade to a lga1200 motherboard and a i3-10100 processor. you would get 8 threads and a nice single thread performance upgrade. Passmark 2637 vs 2276 for the 6600.

The I5-11400 would get you 12 threads and and a single thread passmark rating of 3065.
Single thread is what a game's master thread needs most.
