[SOLVED] What should i upgrade first??? 1000$

Hello fellow internet friends! I need help with something.
If you could help me that would be awsome

I have 1000$ that i can use on upgrades for my setup. I play mostly highly competetive Overwatch and want the highest advantage possible. What i am looking for is upgrades that will make it easier for upgrades sooner, i want to upgrade my system until it's good enough to run on a 240 hz monitor in the future. Living in Norway, if that helps of somekind.

GPU AMD Radeon (TM) R9 390x
Processor AMD FX-8370 Eight-Core Processor, 4000 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
MOBO ASUS M5a97 R2.0
RAM Hyperx 2x 4GB ddr3 something mhz
Power Supply Cooler Master MWE bronze 650

Budget = 1000$

Well, you could keep the power supply, I guess. For your goal, everything else will need to be replaced.

Immediately, new CPU, Motherboard, and Ram. For FPS gaming at high refresh you will want an Intel CPU. i5-9600k minimum, ideal, probably the i7-8700k. i7-9700k as an alternative. Z390 motherboard, Z370 if you are going with the i7-8700k.

You'll want something like DDR4 3000 or 3200Mhz in a 2x8GB kit. Or, if you want more for some reason a 2x16GB kit. Should allow for more stability if you only get two memory modules.

You'll be wanting a decent SSD for your boot drive if you don't have one already. NVMe drive would be good, but a SATA drive (m.2 or 2.5") is fine for gaming.

You could keep the GPU for now. It will still likely set your top end FPS, but the faster CPU should increase your minimum frame rates a lot.

Wow, the only thing that looks to be worth keeping in that system seems to be the PSU, case, and storage (Though you might want to pick up an SSD if you don't already have one). Anyway, here you go...

UPDATE: Just remembered this is a gaming build. You'll be wanting to go with Intel if you can fit it into the budget (Though considering how pricey things are over there the 1700X will probably be a better pick than an i5. Still, though, something to keep in mind).

Why exactly z370 for 8700k and not z390? I also found a pretty cheap I7 8086k which i believe is pretty good too.

I have a samsung ssd so that's no problem.

You can use Z390 with the i7-8700k sure, just depends on the parts you want there. There might a nice Z370 board available compared to a recently released Z390 board with the same features. You aren't really gaining anything with the chipset for gaming purposes.

i7-8086k is a good choice, basically just a binned and slightly overclocked i7-8700k.

I would spend as much on the core platform as possible, then save a little for a nice GPU. RTX2070 is a decent choice for 1080p high refresh, so you could try to squeeze that in, but it will likely exceed your budget to go with that plus Intel.

Ryzen is a great budget alternative, and a good recommendation for someone going with higher resolutions, but Intel still has their clock and IPC advantage, and that still matters for FPS.

To add to what Eximo is saying, going with Ryzen and a better GPU like the 2070 will probably give you better out-of-the-door performance, but if you go with Intel and don't spend as much on the GPU, you'll be able to have better performance down the line, so it's a decision of good performance now or great performance later.

I think my choice for now will be to upgrade cpu with intel I7 8700k/8086k, mobo z370/z390 and 16gb ram, so i can buy a newer gpu later. Thanks again

Yeah, i think it's smarter to wait with the gpu until i get some more money XD

Intel is best for gaming, but Ryzen is fine, if budget is a limitation. 1st gen ryzen chips have been selling quite low, lately.
