In an ideal world I'd like to run read dead 2 at a decent texture quality at 60 fps.

At this point if you're thinking of upgrading, you'll have to change the whole lot.

If u get anything above a 5th Gen Intel CPU, you'll need to upgrade the motherboard, which consequently u need to upgrade to DDR4 RAM.

Some people may suggest a CPU-only upgrade to an i7-4790k bit at that price you can get a good Ryzen+Mobo combo with 8Gb of RAM.

If you upgrade your GPU, it will get bottlenecked so... though situation here.

Well normally my answer is always GPU when asked this question. But in your case, you need a better quality PSU. For future proof and if prices are decent, I'd recommend a gold 850W EVGA PSU at least, they have 10 years warranty and are the heart of the PC.

After that you'd really need a better CPU but overall, if your CPU is still running decently, a GPU will always give you the highest outcome of performance unless it can't run at all or is seriously underwhelmed by the CPU or the CPU doesn't even have high enough frequency to even achieve the minimum requirement of games. Since it's a quad core of 3 Ghz speed with turbo of 3.3 you might be okay but you're on the limit.

So yes, PSU > GPU > CPU is my suggestion of upgrade priority. Also note that if you only slightly increase your GPU to like a 1060, you won't have such a huge impact overall. Might wanna wait for the next generation and get the equivalent **60 Nvidia GPU or a used 1070 as a reliable upgrade.

Also take into consideration what resolution and quality you wanna play at. Your PC might still run that game properly easily at a resolution bellow 1080p & since the game will be online you might need good quality internet before investing on a PC.

Your motherboard should support i7-3770/3770k. That should be a good upgrade to play the game. You can search for good deals on in used markets like ebay or local.

Edit: You will need a decent 450w or above PSU, like Corsair CXM/TXM, Seasonic S12II/M12II. Rest of your specs are fine.

Maybe time for a new platform upgrade and get into something a bit more modern. I would go with something like this:

FYI, if you want to play red dead 2, you may need to buy a console. Right now it is not expected to release on the PC. I bet that it will one day, but it will be awhile till they do.

Your GPU is going to hold you back no matter what you do. The 1050 is a budget card and it will be a 1080p/60fps card with low settings on current and new AAA games. Some games you will be able to run medium, but it is what it is. I would upgrade the platform, then in a few months look at a 580/1060.
