I have a crossfire R9 290s pair with an I5 6600K. I wanted some advise on what I should I upgrade too in order to replace my crossfire. I want to know what will be the best upgrade per cost. Thank you in advance for any tips or suggestions.

Solution
As said above, a single good card would be nice. The GTX 1080 would arguably beat two 290's, but a 1080ti would see much better improvements.

What monitor(s) are you using?

Any PSU should run those cards, that isn't a concern. Motherboard shouldn't have trouble with one, really only the case depending on the cooler size - will make a difference

I have a 1080p that I will upgrade eventually hopefully this year. I have a gold Corsair PSU 1000watts.
I have 16Gb of DDR4 Vengence Corsair 3000Mhz

I just don't like the heat the cards produce and I've had them for quite some time know. I just feel is time to change to something better since I'm also going to be upgrading my montitor soon.

I'll say I have around $700-$800 at most for a graphic card. But that is like max for me at this time

144Hz 1440p monitors that really take advantage of a 1080ti would be probably around $300, leaving not enough for the Ti.

That said, a single GTX 1080 (naturally, they are devaluing like crazy) will run you $550 or so for some models. You could pick up one, enjoy lower temps, throw away the drawbacks of multi-GPU configuration, and draw less power when you are pushing it.

But I can sale my R9 290 to make up for it. If you can provide examples of monitors, because I have no clue what is good in that category that will be great help. Also my rig is black and red so I was thinking of going MSI but if you have other suggestions for the graphic cards I happy to listen to your advice. Also thank you for taking time to give me helpful advise.

Unless you have a 4K monitor or very high res monitor, A 1080ti is a silly purchase go for a 1080 , 1060 or 1070 they are cheap as ,because the intro of the ti and new titan ,it has pushed all the prices down a tier.I would even look at the rx 580 as well ,not saying you should buy one but at least check it out because that is really fast in DX11, As for monitors anything 4K won't get you change from 600 bucks USD AND UP and even decent 2K is 400 to 500,ASUS are good and this BenQ 32-Inch IPS 4K Ultra High Definition LED Monitor is 700 USD on Amazon and it tested consistently first ,in this price range and its massive 32inches of hardcore gaming

Thanks for advise yeah I was thinking a 1080Ti is just too much if I don't own a 4k monitor. Yeah I'll go for a 2k monitor, one was posted below and it looks really good and not too bad on price. I can work with that. Thanks for all the tips and advice. just one more questions. What should I put my R9 290s for. I won't want too go too high or too low. What is a good price range so I can benefit and whoever is buying can also enjoin?

Thanks I can work with that. I"ll just need to save for a little longer than plan but thanks for all the help. I was thinking of waiting for RX Vega, but if it releases before I make the purchase I'll wait and see how good it will perform. Thanks for the help

Vega is excruciatingly close .You really should wait ,and see what comes out in the wash,I rushed out and bought a strix 1070 because it was 84 dollars off ,I don't regret but I wish I had of held on just to see what AMD come up with,It will come down to performance /price figures against Nvidia's aggressive price cutting

Thanks for adivse guys I went with a 2k monitor and the msi 1080 gaming x. I can tell the difference in performance and I'm quite glad with my purchase. Also my 1080 got it for $500 microcenter
