I want to upgrade something to increase my FPS in games. Not looking to play triple A games lol. What would be the best thing to upgrade to give me the biggest boost in performance?

My system:
Windows 8.1
Motherboard: GA-78LMT-USB3
Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.90HZ
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost
RAM: Single 6GB

Solution
I would recommend getting on a more modern platform, if you can afford it. Even a Ryzen 3 1200, would be vastly superior to anything, that your motherboard supports, with regards to gaming.

It might require a bios update, but if you cannot afford to do a platform upgrade, the FX 8370, that...

Since your board accepts all the FX CPUs, your best and only hope for better gaming would be an FX-8350/70 CPU. Couple that with a faster gfx card. My FX-8350 @ 4.6 GHz seems to be able to handle my RX 590 without much or any CPU bottleneck. But your other choices might be a RX 570/580, Nvidia 1660... That last one stretching it a bit.

Are you gaming at 1080p 60Hz?

Sorry it took so long to respond. But yes, I am.

Definitely FX 8350/FX 8370 for the CPU, paired with the best GPU your budget allows for. I'd also recommend getting 2x4GB or 2x8GB of matched DDR3 1866MHz to replace the 1x6GB stick. Also, you might need a new PSU, depending on whether your current one is good enough for the upgrade or not.

Best possible cpu would be the 95w FX 8370E. On that board it'd actually be able to OC to @ 4.3GHz, a decent boost over the more common 125w 8320/8350/8370 stock clocks and not stress the VRM's anymore than any other 95w cpu would, coming in roughly equitable in wattage

It might require a bios update, but if you cannot afford to do a platform upgrade, the FX 8370, that Karadjne suggested is your best option, given your motherboard.

Don't forget the E . That makes a considerable difference 👍
As hard to find as the 8370E is, might have better luck with finding a 8320E, it's exactly the same cpu, but lower factory clocks. It'll OC the same as its big brother to @ 4.3GHz and have the same performance.
