I just bought a rtx 3090, these are my current system specs, I was just wondering what I should update along with the graphics card for optimal performance?

Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor

Corsair H100i v2 70.69 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Asus MAXIMUS IX HERO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory

Seagate Barracuda 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

Samsung 960 EVO 250 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ATX TG ATX Mid Tower Case

Corsair RMx 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

What should you update...................for "optimal performance"?

At what cost?

More info needed. You can obviously upgrade any of that, but nothing is known about your budget or what you do with the PC.

Typically, the CPU is the most important component, but a significant upgrade in your CPU would also require a new motherboard.

What's the problem with the current performance and are you willing to throw $100 at that problem? Or $1000?

I mainly use it for gaming, I've been on a waiting list for a 3090 for the past year or so it just finally became available. Just curious if everything will run fine or if my current hardware is just too old to handle a 3090. I can upgrade parts over time so budget isn't really an issue.

Your current cpu (4 cores/8 threads) will be a bottleneck for that card if you wish to play current games.
