Hey guys this is my build.

Intel 8th Gen i7 8700K 6C 12T CPU (Unlocked)
MSI Z370-A PRO Motherboard
NZXT Liquid CPU Cooler with 240mm Radiator
HyperX 16GB 3200MHz XMP DDR4 RAM in Dual Channel
Samsung 500GB SSD
Samsung 500GB SSD
Gigabyte OC RTX 3080 10GB GDDR6X Graphics Card
Deepcool 650W Bronze Power Supply
Deepcool Matrexx 55 Case with Glass Side Panel

My CPU isn't cutting it. I play a very CPU intensive modded verison of GTA 5 FiveM and this current CPU isn't giving me the performance I want.

the dream CPU would be a i7 12700F but I don't think my motherboard is compatible with it.

So the goal of this thread is to identify a CPU that is of similar performance to the i7 12700F, but is compatible with my motherboard.

Look forward to everyone's answers as I really need some help with this.

Cheers Aj.

12th gen might become slightly cheaper. Don't count on it right away. Maybe on a heavy duty sale. But likely never a lot cheaper unless you buy used.

There's a least a dozen B660 or B660M boards available from MSI, Gigabyte, or Asus.

They differ in features. I have no idea what features you need. Their spec sheets will tell you the differences in features.

May or may not be your best choice.

If you want to buy all new, state your budget and possible sources to buy from in NZ.

Primary purpose? If gaming, what games and what settings?

Secondary purposes?

Total storage requirements?

Any parts you can carry over from old PC?

When will you buy? Next week? November?

Any interest in building your own from the ground up?

Max I would want to spend is around $2,900, really do not want to hit the $3,000.

primary purpose is just gaming, that pc has exact stats to my mates who runs the game GTA 5 FiveM with max base game settings, plus NVE graphics mod, plus reshade and gets really good FPS everywhere on the map

No parts carried over from last build.

Ideally would buy as soon as my current PC would sell.

No interest in building from ground up, have already done that in the past and was too much hassle + mistakes.

There is a few other websites that I am famliar of, I list them below.

have already found this:

For pre-built PCs, I'd take special care on the power supply choice. That is where these outfits try to be skimpy.

And I would strongly lean toward air cooling for the same reason.

If you need 2 drives, you can probably save by making one of them a standard HDD without hurting performance much. Or buy with just one drive and add your own second yourself afterwards....rather than get ripped off by a high price on the second drive.

b660 is a disaster like the b560 platform was. you should get the cost effective picture out of your head to start with.
hardware unboxed did a video on b660 motherboard lineup. theres only a very few boards with capable vrms that could provide a 12700 with its max amount of power. you should check that video to begin with or you could miss out on up to 30% in power. and upgrading to a 9th gen is silly like that first guy suggested, you should not stick to that motherboard period.

that prebuilt doesnt look bad in its specs as far as im reading. decent b660 board, decent psu. and dual channel ram. it checks all the boxes of what to look for in a prebuilt. though wether its actually build by someone with a brain is another question

As said above the only CPU compatible with your board is the i9 9900K which would only be worth considering if you could get one at a good price. If you go the 12700 route and don't want to spend an extreme amount on a motherboard then I would recommend this:

There are none.

Your best bet would be a 12700F plus MSI PRO B660M-A, which is one of the best B660 boards for an affordable price point.
