Hi there, just after christmas ill be ordering some components for a gaming build, aiming for £600.

Ive chosen either the i5 4650k or the 6350 or 6300, however it all depends on the sales and deals after christmas.

Im also probably going to go for the GTX 760. Im only looking to play at 1080p maybe two monitors in a few months, however im not looking for four screens and im not looking to move up in graphics quality anytime soon. What sort of motherboards should i go for, what should i be looking for?

Thank you for any help

First rule, pick a good brand.
You can find this by reading reviews on different boards.
I've always had a good experience with Gigabyte boards.
You want a board with good capacitors in particular if you want it to last.

With one graphics card, go for a microATX motherboard.
These are cheaper and you can choose from microATX or ATX cases.

If you want to overclock, choose a motherboard with a Z87 chipset and overclocking features.
If not, the Core i5 4440 is better value and a motherboard with a H77 chipset is fine.

Available display connectors are irrelevant because you will use a graphics card.

If you plan to use the motherboard audio, consider a board with a better audio codec (e.g. VIA VT2021 has an output signal-to-noise ratio of 110dB compared to 97dB for the Realtek ALC892)

If you plan to use USB headphones or connect via HDMI to an AV receiver, the on board sound isn't important.

If you plan to have other addin cards (e.g. wireless networking), check that these will fit in the available slots.
Remember that you can insert a PCI-E x1 card in a PCI-e x1, x4 or x16 slot.

Firstly you would want a motherboard that can overclock, since all the cpu's chosen can. Their is no real need for the fx 6350 because it is the same as the 6300 but higher clock speed which can be easily achieved by the 6300 or unless you want a higher overclocking headroom then maybe 6350. Since you are looking at an i5 4670k (not 4650k), a better equivalent from amd would be an fx 8350

Depending on your budget, you should look at a z87 chipset for the 4670k and a 990fx chipset for amd

Heres a few boards that are good performance/price

AMD
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0

Intel (haswell)
ASRock Z87 Extreme4
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H
Asus Maximus VI Hero

All are good, so go according to your budget
