Hello Everyone,

Recently my Hard Drive makes Windows 8.1 crash into a automatic repair loops and it takes a long time to load windows and generally sucks. It's a 1TB WD Blue drive which is almost 1 year old.

I was hoping to remove this Hard Drive and replace it for good with a SSD. I have never owned a Solid State Drive hence why I am asking you this.

What SSD do I need? Size and brand and speeds. I play a few games like Minecraft, Sniper Elite V2, Blacklight Retribution and Loadout. I don't store much other than small programs, games and the OS on there?

I am also on a very tight budget of £55 and my initial choice was a Crucial MX100 128GB SSD. Any thoughts, recommendations or anything useful please let me know!

P.S: I will be scrapping my HDD so the SSD will store everything! Thank you!

Thoughts: windows 8.1 will easily take up 60GB if you don't religiously clean out windows folders. This leaves you with basically no storage if you download games.

Your budget doesn't really allow you to purchase an SSD of sufficient size to replace an HDD. Just get a new HDD. Maybe send the old one in for recovery/refurb if possible.

Side note, hit me up with a PM for your BL:R name I'm going to be getting back into it whenever the new devs start updating the game again.

Okay, so 120GB isn't enough 250GB will be enough I guess. This will mean I will have to go over my budget but what is the cheapest and best SSD (consider speeds, reliability and cost)

How much space is currently used on your 1TB HDD?

Well every month i reset the hard drive as Windows 8.1 automatic repair **** it up. It last reset a week ago so I only have used 35Gb but that is with only 1 game

Maybe figuring out why that happens would be a good start. That is NOT a normal situation. Unless it is an actual drive fail, switching to an SSD won't change that.

I'm a big fan of the Samsung 850 EVO, it comes with a 5-year warranty. I think you should get the 250GB version, even if you need to save up more money before buying. Do not get a 120/128 GB SSD, it will be to small for you.

That drive is ready for the bin. If you get a 250GB SSD you will be able to keep a few games at a time provided you have good file management.

I still insist that you would be better off just getting another HDD. For 56GBP you can get a 2TB HDD and not worry about storage. For 25GBP you can get a 750 GB drive.

You will be paying a minimum of 75GBP for a 256 GB SSD. I wouldn't suggest a computer with less than 500GB for gamers.
