I built my PC about 3 weeks ago and noticed how hot it was getting easily, when running just chrome it goes up to about 70C but I'm not sure which temperature is which so this maybe something else running hot and not the CPU/NB

Could anyone tell me, from the picture above, what temperature is which?

Thanks

Also, is it safe to running at this temperature? I am planning to get a new cooler for the CPU in the coming weeks but when playing games it gets to about 93C (I think, depends on which one is which.

CPU - FX-6300 (Using give CPU Cooler) The thermal paste was pre-spread but it did not appear to cover the whole CPU chip so could his affect it?
GPU - Sapphire Radeon 7770
Case has 4 installed fans but they are not all that great themselves (CiT Vantage)

Edit: How would I be able to speed up my CPU fan and is it safe doing so?
Also, would the CPU temp affect the NB temp?

I double checked with CoreTemp and the results were -

(side by side comparison)

Are you able to let me know whether I am safe to speed up my fan?

Your CPU temp is way too high. I would check to see that your CPU fan is even running as it's not showing on either of the programs. The CPU temp should go no higher than 62 degrees c. If your CPU fan is indeed running I would look into reapplying the thermal paste per the products instructions and reinstalling your heatsink.

Thanks for the reply,
I am planning to buy an after market cooler in the next two weeks. Will I be safe until then or shall I just re do the thermal paste asap?

Well honestly if you have not overclocked the CPU at all the stock cooler provided by AMD should provide you adequate cooling. If at all possible I would remove the side panel on your case and then start up the system. Check to see that the CPU heat sink fan is indeed spinning and that all of your other case fans are also working properly. If all your fans seem to be working as they should I would look at removing the heatsink, cleaning the thermal paste off with rubbing alcohol (Little wipes in first aid kits work GREAT!), and then reapplying a high quality thermal paste such as Arctic Silver following their instructions. If after this process you are still getting high temps you may want to look into an aftermarket cooler that fits your needs.

One other thing to look at if your fans are indeed running is which fan profile you are using.

Thanks for the reply,
The fan is spinning so I take it that it is working.
I don't see much point in buying new thermal paste as I plan on buying a new cooler asap anyway so any chance of suggesting a cooler? (The Hyper 212 seems to be too large to fit in my case)

Nope, I haven't changed anything. It goes up higher than that when just playing Candy Crush Saga (I know its bad but its an addicting game)

I would like to get a 212 Evo my self but the size maybe too large for my case

I can recommend the cooler below, have only had to use it on one build as I usually install the 6300 with the stock cooler as it usually provides adequate cooling. But the cooler below should do the trick! If you have a vent on the side panel this cooler works exceptionally well as it blows the air right out the side of the case. Also ensure you have more fans blowing into your case than out, that will help rid your case of any hot air pockets that the cooler could pull air from.

Here's a picture of the inside.
Also, does anyone know whether the 212 Evo will actually fit in this custom build? The case in use is the CiT Vantage

Turn on the PC with the case opened and put your hands in front of each fans to see in which direction the air flows.

Fans in the front are supposed to bring the air in (intake) and fans in the back are supposed to push it out (exhaust).

In any case, even with the stock heatsink your temps should be lower than this so something tells me the CPU and heatsink might not have been installed correctly. Putting too much thermal paste can have the reversal effect and make a CPU overheat, you need to put just the right amount. If the heatsink wasn't properly installed and not making a good contact (enough pressure) on the CPU the heat transfer won't be optimal too.

If you change your heatsink make sure you remove the old paste before re-applying new one. Here's a good product for that:

Sometimes the basic paste that comes pre-applied on a CPU or heatsink isn't really good and is already dried. Here's a good one and not too expensive:

Yeah, some fans have little arrows on them as well, take them off and look at the arrows on the fan, they point in the direction the air flows, make sure the front is pointing inwards (intake) and the back one is pointing out the back (exhaust). Also it it's a good idea to remove the heatsink and reinstall incase it's incorrect like mc_k7 said.

Thanks for the reply,
From what I feel, the two fans on the side are bringing in air and the one on the back is pushing out. I can't determine what the front one is doing but I think it is bringing in air.

The thermal paste was pre-applied so it maybe that it was slightly dried out

Well I think I can adequately say it's either you need to clean the heat sink and CPU and reapply thermal paste or your heat sink is not installed properly. But buying a new cooler will remedy both possible issues and is always nice to have!

Thanks for the info,

It seems to me that buying a new cooler will be the best option in the short and long run

From what I've heard the north and south bridge get quite hot normally anyway (obviously not this hot but still)

I live in the south of the UK where it is currently one of the coldest time of the year, the case itself feels freezing at about 11PM but the temps still sky rocket up. I wouldn't like to see it during Summer!

I'll probably have to move wires around to fit in the new cooler so they'll be pushed around a bit
