This morning I woke up, turned on my computer, MBM5 started, then when i looked at it it says my CPU temperature's at -119C?! What the F*ck? I know i got a nice heatsink and nice airflow but -119C? Hell no. anybody got any idea what to do?

looking at the title of this post, i must say at -119C it sure is not hell

personally I'd take a big hammer and hit your computer till it works or till you feel better whichever comes first. Second of all make sure you haven't moved to antartica, third of all reinstall MBM5 and see if that fixes it, if not it may be your bios or motherboard.

I think i'm still in Vancouver. But what bothers me the most is that my bios tells the same f*cked up story, -119C for the CPU. Gonna email Asus, request for RMA.

Ok, What the HELL?! I put the stock heatsink back on, now it's reporting un-drunk temperature again?! So my SLK900U screwed up my temp sensor?! Time to yell at Thermalright.

well did it always report that temp? I know when I removed my SLK 900U I had to remove my processor to clean it all up and prepare it for the other heatsink, did you remove it to? perhaps somehow in the replacement process you reset the sensor?

The reason i removed my SLK900U was because i was demonstrating it to my friend of how easy it is to install the heatsink on a P4P800 mobo. I removed it, don't know why just put on the stock, and the cpu temp sensor just worked again. Tried to put SLK900U back again, now computer won't even boot, so now i'm stuck with stock. What the heIl? I'm really f*cking confused.

To Quote myself:

personally I'd take a big hammer and hit your computer till it works or till you feel better whichever comes first.

if that's what you said huh to

How the hell does that happen?? Why would a HS make a difference...especially that kind of difference. Just taking a guess, maybe you have some sort of short...

Damn Rambus.

Maybe the SLK900U had too much pressure on the CPU and the sensor so it f*cked up? I have no idea, i'm going to play around with it again this weekend. See how it works out.

The pressure makes sense. I would have been stupid and gone ahead and tried to hit 5GHz... Anyway, good luck with that. I'll be trying to hit 3.12 this week, doubt I'll make it though, having some RAM problems at 2.8 (140FSB) right now.

Damn Rambus.

Goddamn it Thermalright, Stupid heatsinks, i'm gonna see if i could get it working this weekend, a little busy in school this week.

Connecticut, but I go to school in New Hampshire.

I was kind of only kidding, my computer has seemingly no good use for it...see my 'At it again' thread for details. No matter what I do, my CPU refuses to OC with stability, but temps are nice and cool no matter what I set it to (I can only go up to 3.12GHz, however). RDRAM won't go to PC1088 stabily (runs perfectly fine at 1066MHz, however), and when I drop the RDRAM multiplier down to 3x, I only gain performance at >3GHz, which my mobo seems to dislike. Maybe you have some ideas.

I'd probably find a use for it, if you do want to get rid of it. How much do you want for it (I'll pay for shipping, too, since I know you're in Canada)?

Damn Rambus.

just so we all know hardware boss, what does living crap look like anyway? I figgured scott might like to know so when he's beating the computer he knows when to stop
