I am building a pc for a friend in France later this month.I live in the UK so i need the system to be perfectly stable because i can't go and fix it if problems occur. To save money i have bought him an xp1700 (tbred B DUT3C-don't know the stepping yet) which i intend to overclock. What kind of overclock should i am for to get the maximum effect but keep perfect stability?I will be using DDR 400 so should i am for as close to a 200MHz FSB as possible or aim around 166MHz for safety's sake and maybe put the memory down to CL2?
Relevant specs are below:
XP 1700 (tbred B DUT3C i.e. 1.6v)
TT Volcano 7+ HS/F
Twinmos DDR400 (CL 2.5) Matched Pair
MSI K7N2-L

Thanks in advance for any advice.I know there are a lot of experienced xp1700 overclockers out there!

**UPDATE**
Got the cpu today. It has stepping JIUHB 0304 (as i said above it is a DUT3C).Does anyone have this stepping and week? What results can i expect?

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]
Edited by ad_rach on 09/17/03 07:00 AM.

Maximum overclock would be about 2400mhz but first try 11x200 that should get in 2.2G see if that's stable.

-Intel PIV 2.4C @ 3.84G -Asus P4P800 -OCZ Gold 2x256 3700EL memory @ 256mhz 2.5-3-3-7 -Sapphire 9800pro @ 490/780 -SB audigy -80G Maxtor Diamond Plus9 Ultra ATA-133 hdd -450 Enermax PSU

Blimey! That's some overclock you've got there! That system of yours must tear up anything you throw at it!I will definitely be taking your advice on board!
Anyway...what kind of voltage bump does 11X200 generally need, bearing in mind that this is a DUT3C as opposed to a DLT3C, so i have to start higher at 1.6v?I understand that it varies from cpu to cpu and stepping to stepping but can you give me an idea?

I would recommend nothing more than 1.80 vcore with that cooler.

-Intel PIV 2.4C @ 3.84G -Asus P4P800 -OCZ Gold 2x256 3700EL memory @ 256mhz 2.5-3-3-7 -Sapphire 9800pro @ 490/780 -SB audigy -80G Maxtor Diamond Plus9 Ultra ATA-133 hdd -450 Enermax PSU

aim for a 11*166 @ 1830MHz, to insure the system to remain cool.
