I hate doing this, but I'm a dumbass most of the time - I need help from some of you wizards who knows better than most, please.

My current setup;
GPU: GeForce GT 740
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
Memory: 10GB RAM
Motherboard: MSI MS 7693

I'll be upgrading this weekend and then again at the end of December because of a budget. For gaming reasons obviously. I can get only ONE of these now and then wait for the other:
GTX 1060 / RX 480 (8GB)
or
AMD FX-6300 Vishera Black Edition 6-Core 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo)

Advice on which is better than my current / what I should replace first would be highly appreciated. Thank You!

1060>480 imo, the price difference notwithstanding.

That being said, it might be worth it to get your CPU first, because the price of those cards might go down in the future. If that happens, It might be more worth to get the 480 over the 1060 later.

I like the FX 6300 on a budget, but if you can afford it, the 8350 might be a better purchase for the future. AMD also has some new chips that might be worth checking out, I haven't looked much into them.

Don't go from the Phenom to the FX, waste of money. I would go with the RX 480 8gb but pass on the reference design and go for a aftermarket version like the Sapphire Nitro as it will run cooler and perform better due to factory overclock.

If you want more performance from your CPU then I would suggest buying a aftermarket CPU cooler like the EVO 212 or Cryorig H7, as long as your case can fit them, and overclocking that Phenom II X6 1055T.
