what to do if external hardisk files are not openning

i have a buffalo external hard drive when i click the inside folders it does not open and gets hang and the hard drive get some clicking sound though after few minutes some folder opens but i could not copy the file from there to my internal hardrive pls help

They are probably corrupt. Try booting in safe mode first, but chances are they're lost. Worst case could be that the drive is dying, best case you corrupted the drive.

clicking sound= bad. Most propably your external drive is close to death. Try safe mode, try a linux live cd, try another system. If you manage to copy, backup all files and don't use it again for things you want to hold.

But when I use to check through disk management it shows my hard drive status healthy

Believe us. Disk management doesn't tell you anything. You could try chkdsk but even that may not pick up i/o errors.

i have had 2 or 3 disks that were all healthy in smart test , but were corrupted!
