what to do if your pc deletes all your icons

I was playing nfs world today and when I logged out to play happy wheels, it deleted all my icons and I can't use the start menu to get them back, what do I do???

Right-click the desktop.
Point to "Arrange Icons By".
Click "Show Desktop Icons".
