WHAT TO DO Media server

So im checking out home servers, and wanna start my own
I have a 600mbps router dual band so im good for transfers
i have a ps3 and i have over 1tb worth of media i want to share between 4 devices ( not simontamiously )
so I was going to build a server workstaion pc so i can configure it my self and also play around lunix
or i buy NAS storage
HELP I DONT KNOW What to do this is a project with no deadline

A NAS would be smaller and likely more stable, but more expensive.

Avoid WiFi-WiFi transfers if possible - it halves your maximum bandwidth. Connect it to your router through GBit Ethernet.
