I have been having an interesting year with video cards, built the computer in march with a 4830, less then 30 days ago I upgraded to a 4870 toxic 1gb, got an email today letting me know I have won a 5770 in the Sapphire HD 5k contest, which is pretty sweet, awesome thing of sapphire to do for their customers. But from what I have read the 5770 isnt really a step up from the 4870 and what I really want is the 5870, as do most I am sure. I had planned on waiting til tax time because I wanted the Vapor X cooling and quite frankly didnt really have the money. Though now I have been presented an interesting situation, I have a 5770, 4870 toxic and a 4830 in the stash, so now I do have the money, assuming I can find buyers for all the cards. So the question is, is the 5870 in reference form good enough right now to warrant me selling all these cards and picking it up, or should I wait and get the Vapor as I had planned? Im pretty sure I have come to the decision that I am going to craigslist all the cards and get the 5870 but was curious what the general consensus around here was. What would you do?

5870 is the best out of 4870 crossfire and 5770 crossfire in most cases, and if you can get 250-300 for both the 5770 and 4870, then sell the 4830 for 50, all you'd have to do is put in $50 and get the 5870.

*shakes fist in ragsters direction*
Thanks for crushing that dream, lol. Where are you selling them? Im in the SF bay area, due north of silicon valley, computer components move fairly well around here in my experience, though my experience is null in this situation as I have never sold a GPU

Oh and turbo I appreciate your input on that, I am obsessed with keeping my rig cool, as California will go from cold and raining sheets to nearly 100°F in just a few hours at times, and they dont make houses with A/C round these parts lol.

impaledmango: I am very curious to know where you are located, those prices seem a bit off.

If you don't use the 5770, you could get full price of it. $150 to $160.
The 4870, another $140 to $150.
So in theory, another $80 $100 and you could have the best dx11 card out now.

That to me isn't a bad deal.

I would keep the toxic for now... no ppoint in spending cash on a 5770 when basically the only difference will be the DX11..... Save your cash and get a next-gen card when it is actually needed... right now its all braggin rights till the games are released....

I'm in Canada, and my friend just sold a 4870 on craigslist for 120, so I'm sure you can sell it for the same price and the 5770 is unboxed and new I presume so you can get a little more for it.

Sorry, fell off the radar for a little bit. Thanks for the input anyone, I forgot to mention, I have the 4830, 4870, 5770 and an Athlon 7750 all for sale, that should get me close if not over the 5870's cost. Though ragsters is right, finding buyers is absurdly difficult.

It really was is a strange feeling, I have this brand new video card, factory sealed and I keep getting the urge to open it up and install it, but its pointless because its the same if not a little worse then my toxic....so it just sits
