My old build is on its last legs. It has a QX6700 CPU that was cutting edge and cost me about $1000 at the time. Now I can find it on Ebay for $39.

Anyone have any ideas on a project I can use it for? I would need a new LGA 775 mobo. Make a HTPC? Home server? Sell it on Ebay for $38?

I'm assuming, from the need for a new 775 mobo, that it's the motherboard that's failing?

The CPU itself is still more than capable for most 'mainstream' uses. An HTPC or server would be great uses for it - it's certainly more powerful that a lot of cheap alternatives.

Spending money on a motherboard though, might remove it from being viable? If it's still fully functional, just not meeting your needs, a server or HTPC sounds a great idea. Investing any money into it now though, I'm not sure.
