I'm not new to PC building but I have seen a lot of builds with up to four video cards. My question is what is the point of having four video cards other then running crossfire or sli. Can you even run crossfire or sli on four gpus. I know that you can have two gpus and then just have crossfire but what is the point of having more then two gpus in a system.

The point is to get higher frame rates in games that are GPU limited. Anything more than 3 GPU's is a waste of money. You will most likely see less than a 10% fps improvement with the 4th card and most likely 3%. So for $500-600 a 3% speed increase is not worth it. Then you get into the cost of the power supply upgrade and cooling you need and noise, just not worth it.
