what to expext going from core 2 quad gtx480 build to a alieanware 13?

I'm looking to replace my desktop with an alienware 13. My current specs are
8gb ddr2 1066.
1tb 5400 drive
Q9650 cpu
Gtx 480

The specs of the alieanware 13 I'm looking at are
Qhd screen
Gtx860m
16gbddr3
I5 processor
Ssd drive.

Should I expext to see a performance increase with the laptop? Eventually I will get the graphics amplifier and a new card but for now I just want to know what to expecr when I switch.

If you are talking about the 2gb gtx860m, then it will actually perform basically identically to your gtx480.

The new CPU is better, but if both computers have 1080p screen, they will perform almost exactly the same in most games.

Id say the biggest difference you will see is faster loading times, via the SSD. Much faster.

Agree. The laptop will FEEL faster when just using it for daily tasks, but in game performance it will not really be any better.

You might want to consider just updating your current desktop and get a cheap laptop, if you need one.

Well how about a sager laptop them. Specs of it are 970m and a 4 k screen. It also will have a 256 gb ssd and the same proceasors. Price wise its 200-300 more than the alieanware at 1550.

The 970m will only really perform as well as the 860m because the 970m has to run at 4k. This will GREATLY reduce game performance.

If gaming is your goal, get the best GPU you can with a 1080p screen.
