The basic decision is whither to get a ssd and a 16gb of ram and a gtx 970 or to get 8 gb of ram and sli gtx 970

You don't really need the i7, an i5 is nearly as good for gaming, so is 8GB, although you could upgrade later. What is it you plan to play on that monitor that might need 970SLI?
