I've decided to focus on school more than video games, which is why I've now abandoned my idea to build a gaming PC. I would like to build a desktop strictly for business purposes (web browsing, watching videos, writing essays, etc.) but I'm not sure what kind of parts I should incorporate? I'm confused about the margin between too much power and too little power. I won't be needing any 7700K or anything, but I don't want the PC to be remotely slow when using it. What kind of parts should I use (I might use photoshop a little if I'm interested or do some video editing)? I'm basically looking for the best productivity experience.

Solution
If you're looking to do video editing etc. i'd get a Ryzen PC.
Note that you'll need a graphics card anyway since Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics, so you might as well game on it. :)
