What to set my fan speed to?

Hi Guys,

I remember my old PC the fans only spin when I ran games, therefore I assumed the fans were configured to only spin when the temp of the PC components increased. This was really nice, as the PC was really quiet when I was doing non-stressful processes, e.g. playing videos, watching youtube etc. However, my new PC which I bought doesn't do this, so I really want to set this up as its making quiet a bit of noise all the time, as the fan speed is standard amongst all processes. My friend suggested that its viable to set the speed of my fans to match the temperature of the GPU. E.g. if the GPU at 50%, Fan speed is 50% - So a 1:1 relationship. Do you think this would work? Also, im a bit of a newbie, is the GPU temp the only thing im considering, as im tailoring my fan speeds only to that?

My PC specs are below:

CPU: i7-8700k
GPU: Nvidia 1080ti 11GB

Thanks!

I think you should be able to use Asus AI Suite to control fan speed. You could also try Speedfan. And of course doing it in BIOS is an option.

Are your fans just running full blast right now? If so, they may be plugged directly to the PSU. If not, they may already be speed controlled. If your case has good airflow, the temperature in the case shouldn't rise too much under load, and therefore your case fan speed probably won't vary too much. I find I notice my CPU/GPU fans ramping up much more than I notice my case fans varying.
I'm assuming you're talking about case fans? If so, they need to be plugged into motherboard fan headers to allow for speed control, and if they are they should already be controlled automatically. Their speed is typically set based on the air temperature within the case, as measured by a sensor on the motherboard.

Ohh ok thank you, sorry I did mean case fans. I mean, I would assume my PC already has this plugged in, since all these specs are very new, my Motherboard is the Z370 Strix. Do you know any software I can use to set case fan speed? Or can this only be done through the bios?

Cheers for that, im gonna download those programs after work and test it out. I am not sure what speed my fans are running at, at the moment, but I feel they are not changing in speed, based on the sound not changing. I'm sure the programs you have listed tell me the current speeds that they are running at, so will check what they have been set to you.
