What to upgrade first?

Hi guys, I have some funds to upgrade my gaming pc and I'm trying to decide what to go with. My current build is:
AMD FX-8320
GTX 970
8GB DDR3 1866Mhz Ram
I was thinking of upgrading to an i7-6700k, new compatible motherboard and 16 Gb DDR4 2666Mhz. I've worked out to cost around £450. Does this sound like a worth while plan or would I be better just getting a new graphics card like a GTX980 or something? All comments welcome.

Thanks for the quick response I'll check out the 6600k.

the 970 is okay... only if hes playing games on high res than1080p he needs a 980ti... and i7 is good but in gaming it doesnt perform that better to go over an i5....

Besides the tips already given where you head to intel i5/i7 4th/6th gen (6th if you can afford new cpu/mobo/mems or 4th if you want to get only cpu/mobo), you haven't listed an SSD, although I do believe that with such config you probably have one already. Recall that SLI Scaling does not mean 100% more power to the system, also that the new Nvidia cards are planned to be released on June/July, and will be using HMB2 (there are some threads about it here on the forum as well), so I would not change the VGA at this moment.

Thanks for all the comments guys. To answer all the questions, I have a corsair Cxm750w psu. I don't currently use an SSD. I'm only planning on gaming at 1080p for the foreseeable future. Any thoughts on what aspects of gaming are improved from having better cpu and ram with graphics card staying the same?
