I'm trying to run Resonant Rise 3 for a modded minecraft experience, which has 211 mods installed in its average setting. I can get into the game fine, but it lags briefly almost in any action. I have about $200 dollars which I can spend on upgrading any part of my computer, and I would appreciate assistance on what to ugprade.

My specs are as follows:

Intel i7 930 2.8Ghz
Asrock x58 Extreme MB 6xDDR3 5xPCI SOC 1366
Geforce GTX 750 2gb DDR3
500 GB HDD Seagate 7200 RPM SATA II
3x 2GB (6GB total) Kingston DDR3 memory 1333mhz

Explanations would surely be helpful so I can be more informed. Thanks!

Usually, such intermentant lag spikes happen when your Minecraft runs out of memory (RAM). How much RAM is allocated to Minecraft? What are your current visual settings in the game? Are they balanced for the machine that your running on? Perhaps try to change a few settings and allocate a bit more RAM if you can.

Minimum memory is 2gbs, max memory is 4gbs. I can allocate up to 5.9GB max, but im not sure if that's a good idea, since ive read that putting all your RAM on max might cause lag.

Graphic settings are minecraft original, so the standard average settings, no HD texture packs.

Yes, it would be a very bad idea to allocate all of your system RAM to Minecraft. If you want to upgrade, the GPU would be the first choice. And, if you can, the RAM. Do you experience any lag issues without the mod-pack?

Yes I can run vanilla minecraft with 0 lag and no issues. In fact I can run around 60 of the most popular mods without issues. But this 211 mod pack is too much for my PC. Would upgrading the RAM help? I've read in so many places that there's no noticeable difference from 6gbs to 12gb or 16gb, so that's why I've been trying to gather more information to see if with my specs, it would help to upgrade the RAM for the specific task i'm trying to run

Yes, but sounds like a RAM issue to me. 211 mods does seem like a lot for 2 GB of dedicated RAM. Press F3 and watch in the top-right corner for your RAM usage, does it go up and down as the lag occurs? What is the number there?

Most of the time It hovers around this:

Used memory: 30%-45% (1400ish) of 4029 mb
Allocated Memory 63% (2546MB)

Doesn't seem like it's using all the RAM.

I should state that my computer is at least 5 years old, and I've never changed the hard drive, and reformatted several times.

Would buying a SSD instead of RAM help, or is it unrelated?

If you buy an SSD, you will most-likely have smoother gameplay than on your HDD. It's simple as well. Do you play any other demanding games? Otherwise I would suggest getting an SSD if you don't need the extra GPU power.
