Hi everyone,
I have a D-Link DSL-2705B Gateway, and I think it's slowing down my Verizon DSL. I have 2 computers and a printer connected wirelessly by a Netgear WG111v3 adapters. It seems to have gotten slower over time. It could be Verizon, but I'm wondering if I upgrade to a newer modem/router/gateway, whatever it's called now, will I see a speed improvement to the computers when downloading or surfing the net? What changes do you recommend, my main goal is to increase internet speed if possible without upgrading service from Verizon, they are bad enough, I don't want to pay them more for nothing!!!

That could actually be an overheating issue with the modem.... I guess to test that you would have to leave it off until later in the day and see if it works fine right at turn on. You...
My friend did that test for me about 2 weeks ago and he got very fluctuating speeds. I contacted Verizon and they claimed the line is fine and I should not be having any issues. Then they ignore me when I tell them that my web pages can take minutes to load. Their response is ALWAYS that it could be the modem, and they do not replace them anymore, so I would have to buy one myself. I have no issues when I start my modem in the morning, but within an hour or 2, the internet starts to slow down or stop completely, and I have to restart the modem.

You could try pointing a fan at the modem to see if more airflow will keep it from having problems. If you get good results with those two tests, it quite possibly is a hardware problem.

Verizon should have a list of approved modems published for your DSL. I recommend purchasing a discrete modem and separate router. That way the router is reusable if you ever switch from DSL to cable or fiber.
