what to upgrade or should i do a rebuild?

Hi

I have been running this rig for a few years now, and im starting to notice low FPS in some games on high settings, things like modded skyrim, or archage online, titanfall (sometimes). I THINK its my graphics card bottlenecking my system but im hoping you could advise what would be a good fix or how to find out what is causing the bottleneck?. (also my CPU is meant to be overclocked to 4.5ghz (by cyberpower when purchased) but everywhere i look it says its 3.4ghz (its native speed)

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Asus sabertooth P67 mobo
Memory: 8192MB RAM (DDR3 2x4gb 1600mhz)
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590
SSD HDD 64gb (for OS mostly)
SATA hdd 1tb (most things installed on this)

Im thinking its my graphics card bottlenecking things but please let me know what you think!!!

EDIT - CPU-Z shows my CPU core speed at 4500mhz (multiplier x45 bus speed 100mhz)

I think your cpu is bottlenecking your video card. The GTX 590 is the equivalent to a gtx 770 (sort of) so i would say you should upgrade your cpu and motherboard.

That is not a true statement. The i7-2600K is still a very strong gaming CPU. A GTX 780 would be a nice upgrade from the GTX 590, but I would say something else could be causing the drop in performance. What are your CPU/GPU load temps? Have you recently done a full scan to check for malware? A fresh OS install should get the system performing like it did when it was new.

the 590 is essentially 2x580 in SLI though? most comparisons show it as being significantly weaker than a 770, but im told thats the same with all duel GPU cards vs their single GPU equivalent.

how would i get my CPU/GPU load times?

i have done an AV scan (avg/malwarebytes)

i havnt done a fresh OS install as i didnt OC my machine myself and have no idea how to.

If the CPU is overheating then it will reduce its speed to prevent damage which will cause the system to slow down.

I ran them both for about 5 mins temp seemed to top out around 85 for the "unit" which does seem hot but i have one of the all in 1 liquid cooling systems so im not sure how to improve on it much?

Which temp was showing as 85C? If that's the CPU temp then I would say you are certainly running into an overheating problem, especially if it got that hot after only 5 minutes. Which all-in-one cooler do you have? I have an i7-2600k that is air cooled at 4.4GHz and it maxes out below 70C.

I'm guessing GPU bottleneck, specifically, the VRAM. Things like modded Skyrim on higher resolutions and settings tend to use a lot, and that card is from an era when 1GB was typical, and 2GB was a maybe. You didn't specify VRAM, but it's my best guess. Also, most driver updates are not helping older cards, so driver performance would give you a boost even on an upgrade that many would deem "parallel".

yeah thats the CPU hitting that, I dont know the name of the cooler, its not got the brand printed on it and i got it in 2011/12 so its out of my memory im afraid
