and I have a max $300 (can stretch if needed) to upgrade (will upgrade early Jan probably).

I play at 1080p and I am happy with my FPS. I am interested in aesthetics as well.

I do too but I cant recommend you go throwing money at your computer for no tangible benefit. The only thing I would be interested in upgrading if I had your system is the monitor, or maybe sell your 1060 and get a 1070 like CTurbo said.
 
Buy a second side monitor. Not so much for gaming as for browsing and desktop operations.
While gaming a side monitor is handy to keep email and performance monitors open and visible.

Try to duplicate your current monitor.

Or... why not a nice 1440P 27" monitor?

A I5-6600k can support a much stronger graphics card if you think you need that.
But... beware a small jump, say to a FuryX or even GTX1070; they will not be THAT much faster.
I would think GTX1080 if you play fast action shooters.
