Hello!
I've been recently lagging in a fair amount of games that I play and i'm wondering what to upgrade.
I currently have a GTX 960, I7-4790, 12gb ram and 500watts. I also have an SSD. I'm thinking upgrading my GPU would give me better frames, but isn't it bad to also have 12gb of ram? Just wondering what I should get in order to upgrade my computer. This is for games such as dayz, rust and black ops 4. Thanks!

Solution
Perfect, here's what I recommend. Your Z97 motherboard will allow you to run faster RAM, which really helps with 1080p gaming. Toss your other RAM (just put it away, give it away, or sell it.)

*Edit: It would be really nice if you had an i7-4790K instead of the non-K. But, that's a lot of extra money spent that would be better spent toward a new and faster i5-8600K or similar system.

Maybe you could buy a used 4790K on eBay and if it works good (30-day money back gauruntee) then you could sell your i7-4790 to regain some of the money. The i7-4790K (with a decent cooler) can run at 4.6Ghz pretty easily.

Your Z97 motherboard allows overclocking. Your i7-4790 does not.

Solution
It is not bad to have 12 GB, but it is not optimal. On the SPD tab it should show you what you have in slot 1 2 3 or 4, see if the 8GB is 1600 (800 doubled) and the 4GB is 1333 (667 doubled). If so copy the part number of the 8GB and find a matching stick on ebay to replace the 4GB.

The I7 is good, the ram can be ok as is or can find a stick to match to bring it up to 16GB, the real upgrade will be in a video card. 1070TI if your budget will allow. Getting close to black friday deals though.
