[SOLVED] What to upgrade?

These are my current specs:

CPU: Intel I7-6700K ( OC to 4.6Ghz )
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Hero
GPU: MSI gaming x trio RTX 2080 Super
RAM: 16GB Kingstone Hyperx DDR4 3000mhz
Case: NZXT Noctis 450 Mid-tower
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2
Monitor: Asus rog swift ph278qr (2560 x 1440) 165Hz

The computer was custom built about 3 years ago, the 2080 super was bought just a few weeks ago as I had a 1080 which went bust and then replaced and went bust again.
I was looking at the new 10 series Intel CPUs or a I9-9900k and also had a few issues with what i suspect to be my ram, I wouldn't say anything NEEDS to be upgraded its more of a case of having spare money and wanting more FPS.

9th Gen is a dead platform and 10th Gen is a power hog. There is a slim chance that Intel will allow for 10th Gen motherboards to be used with 11th Gen when it is ever released, but I wouldn't hold my breath. That leave Ryzen 3000 series on B550 (will be released in 3 weeks) or X570 for ability for future upgrades, Ryzen 4000, along with PCIe 4.0 compatibility. The B450 & X470 motherboards have been approved for Ryzen 4000 but how that will work is still a mystery.

How much budget youre going to spend? and what are the upgrade aimed for?

Budget is about £1000 tops but I cant imagine Il be spending all of that

With a budget of 1000 Quid there are a couple things you can do. Both will involve replacing the the motherboard, but I'm sure you could sell the current motherboard, CPU, and RAM.

This uses a good motherboard and has a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The Sabrent Rocket 4.0 is one of the fastest SSDs available https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sabrent-rocket-nvme-40-m2-ssd-review-a-high-performance-value Is it needed probably not, but with the next gen consoles using PCIe 4.0 SSD in them you would have an SSD that matches those in performance.

Better motherboard but "slower" SSD. The 8200 Pro is still an excellent SSD, it just is PCIe 3.0 vs PCIe 4.0.

Keep your RAM but go to a Ryzen 3900X.

All of these have 2TB NVMe SSDs in them because games are getting larger and if you have the budget for a large SSD, it is worth the investment.

If you want to go Intel, there's not much point in getting an i9-9900K at this point, since they just released the i7-10700K, which has the same number of cores and threads and performs very similar for around $100 less.
