I have a HP with a Asus p5bw-la[strike] basswood[/strike] MB. I would like to replace the XFX 8600 GT vid card because it is so freaking loud with the always 100% fan on.

Which version of the PCI Express 16 is this slot.....Im not sure what vid card to get.

My needs are for a quiet one and I dont game much at all. I mostly stream video and work with 2 monitors set up. So mainly it is a multi media PC.

Any help would be great. Oh...I have been using NVIDIA boards for awhile on many rigs....have not tried a ATI card in years. I had better experience with the dual monitor setup with NVIDIA software compered to the ATI offerings, has ATI gotten better with dual monitor software in the past 3 years?

Solution
Because your budget, I only can find this one Galaxy 63TGS8HX3XXZ GeForce GT 630 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162116&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

I will recommend to buy the nvidia card, because 1) your MB has the pice1.1X16 slot, which does not compatible with AMD GPU with pcie2.1X16, here is the info http://www.overclock.net/a/the-final-answer-to-the-controversial-pcie-x16-version-compatibility 2) your PC maybe is the HP, and I can't find the newer version BIOS ( at least 2008/2009), if they have the newer bios then the pcie2.1X16 will compatible. 3) If you can find other like GT620 (=GT430) but make sure you get the card has the 128-bit or...
So will it matter if i get a card that is PCI Exp. 2.0? Do I need to get a x16 only?

I just want a decent card for multi media that is really quiet, I dont pay many games at all. I have a dual HD monitors (one a tv) and usually need to stream video and then work on the other monitor. My XFX 8600 GT is way too loud to deal with in this small office. I just want to replace it with something cheap that gets me by for my basic use.

I saw some sub $50 cards but not sure which ones run quiet. I could go with a ATI but just always had good luck using NVIDIA cards for dual monitors.

Solution
updated my sys specs, i was alittle off on my MB,

One odd thing...in the BIOS settings for the vid card I can select either PCI or PCI E....when i set it and save to PCI E.....after I restart the system it always reverts back to PCI with my XFX 8600 GT card.
